On the Aug. 29, 2022, episode of BlazeTV’s Steve Deace Show, The FAMiLY Leader President and CEO Bob Vander Plaats warned U.S. Senate Republicans – including Iowa Sens. Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst – of the dangers of voting for the the federal “Respect for Marriage Act,” which would more than codify same-sex marriage, but would also compel the federal government to conform to California’s (or any state’s) redefinition of “marriage” and open the doors to direct attacks on religious liberty.
Vander Plaats argued that Republicans joining Democrats on a “yes” vote would not only be a direct slap in the face to the GOP’s base, but could also cost Republicans the upcoming, mid-term election.
